Ademola Lookman’s stellar performance in Atalanta’s 3-2 win over Fiorentina at Gewiss Stadium has earned him a top rating for Serie A’s fourth round.
In his debut league appearance for Atalanta, the Nigerian forward assisted Mateo Retegui’s equalizing goal in the 21st minute and scored the decisive goal just before halftime. His efforts led to a standout rating of 8/10, tying him with Udinese’s Florian Thauvin as the best-performing players of the round, according to Italian sports media.
Lega Serie A named Lookman the official Man of the Match for his role in securing Atalanta’s victory. Thauvin, who also received the Man of the Match award, contributed significantly to Udinese’s 3-2 comeback win against Parma, scoring two goals.
Other notable performances in this round included Napoli’s Alex Meret, Romelu Lukaku, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, all rated 7.5, alongside Bologna’s Santiago Castro, AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic, and Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
As Atalanta gears up for their UEFA Champions League clash with Arsenal, Lookman’s form will be crucial for their success. He is also the sole African player nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or, partly due to his memorable hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, which helped Atalanta clinch the trophy.
