The Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Fayoade M. Adegoke, mni, psc, has formed a six-member panel to investigate allegations of human rights abuses at the Maroko Police Station. This decision follows the emergence of a viral video in which a woman claimed she was unlawfully detained alongside male and underage individuals at the station.
The panel comprises notable figures, including DCP Ajao S. Adewale, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), ACP Ogunsakin Gbenga, PhD, Officer in charge of the Zonal Intelligence Department, and other members, such as Mr. Emma Nndozie, Group Crime Editor for Vanguard Newspaper; Comrade Prince Adeoye Adewunmi, a human rights activist; Ivy Kanu from TVC News; and Barrister Mrs. Blessing Afe, a lawyer and social worker.
AIG Adegoke is set to formally inaugurate the panel on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 12:00 Noon, at the M.D Abubakar Conference Hall, Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos. This initiative aligns with the current leadership’s commitment to uphold human rights and address gender-related issues within the police force. The panel’s findings are anticipated to shed light on the alleged misconduct and promote accountability within the police system.
