The Bauchi State Government has presented a supplementary budget of **N94.676 billion** to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval. This request was made during a plenary session on Tuesday, where Deputy Majority Leader Babayo Akuyam read the proposal on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed.
In his presentation, Akuyam explained that the supplementary budget is in accordance with **Section 122** of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The governor is seeking this approval to facilitate the swift execution of priority projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of residents in Bauchi State.
“The governor is committed to accelerating infrastructural development, fostering human capital growth, and improving the health and education sectors,” Akuyam stated, quoting a letter from Governor Mohammed regarding the budget proposal.
In addition to the supplementary budget, the House of Assembly has also proposed the creation of a **Food Security and Nutrition Committee**. This committee is intended to tackle the issues of hunger and malnutrition in the state. Akuyam noted that the committee will focus on enhancing the nutritional status of Bauchi’s most vulnerable populations, including women, children, and internally displaced persons.
“The committee’s responsibilities will include ensuring the implementation of food and nutrition initiatives under the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination. This initiative aligns with the National Multisectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition,” Akuyam added.
The establishment of this committee highlights the state government’s commitment to addressing food security and nutritional challenges faced by its citizens, aiming to provide better support for those in need.
