Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has firmly stated that the party will not withdraw its candidate, Anerua Abdulai Aliu, from the upcoming Edo State governorship election. Adebayo made this clear via a post on his official X account, @Pres-Adebayo, just hours ahead of the election, scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
In his statement, Adebayo emphasized that the SDP remains committed to the election, and their candidate, Aliu, will not abandon the party or align with any other candidate or political party. This clarification comes amid rumors that the SDP may be stepping down to support another candidate.
Adebayo also took the opportunity to warn voters about false information being circulated by rival political parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC). He accused the APC of spreading propaganda aimed at misleading the electorate about the SDP’s position in the election.
“Voters and the general public in the Edo gubernatorial election slated for Saturday, September 21, 2024, should not be deceived by @OfficialAPCNg and its desperate propaganda,” Adebayo said.
### Criticism of APC’s Economic Policies
Adebayo criticized the APC’s economic policies, which he described as disastrous, resulting in widespread poverty, hunger, and hardship across the country. He made it clear that the SDP would not align itself with parties that have failed the Nigerian people.
“@TheSDPNg has not and will not step down for a political party whose disastrous economic policy is sorrow, tears, and hunger. We stand by our candidate and our manifesto of Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity,” he stated.
### Urging Voters to Think Critically
Adebayo further urged voters to reconsider supporting either the APC or the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), given the economic challenges Nigeria is facing. He criticized those who would continue to support the major political parties despite ongoing issues like poverty, unemployment, inflation, and insecurity.
“Any voters lamenting over poverty, insecurity, hunger, unemployment, inflation, hardship, and injustice who still can spare a finger to thumbprint for @OfficialAPCNg or @OfficialPDPNig need to reexamine the connection between their brains and their fingers,” he added.
The statement underscores SDP’s commitment to offering an alternative to the ruling parties and reinforces their stance of not backing down from the race for the Edo State governorship.
