Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has encouraged local motorists to adopt Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for its environmental and economic benefits. Speaking at the launch of a weeklong training for auto technicians on converting petrol vehicles to CNG, Oyebanji highlighted the initiative’s potential for a “cleaner environment” and “cheaper fuel” for residents.
The training, a joint effort between the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the state government, aligns with the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, which aims to convert petrol-powered vehicles and distribute conversion kits across states.
Represented by Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, Oyebanji emphasized that both the Federal and State Governments are committed to leading this transition. He noted that CNG is already being used to power the state’s independent power plant and encouraged vehicle owners to embrace CNG to benefit from lower fuel costs.
NADDC Director General Joseph Osanipin explained that the training aims to build capacity and update skills for technicians and youths, enabling them to adapt to changes in the automotive industry. He also highlighted the initiative’s role in mitigating the impact of fuel subsidy removal and the benefits across the CNG value chain.
