Interim head coach Lee Carsley of the England national team has confirmed that Bukayo Saka is currently being assessed for an injury sustained during the UEFA Nations League match against Greece.
The incident occurred during England’s match at Wembley on Thursday, where Saka suffered an injury to his right leg, prompting his substitution in the 51st minute for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. Saka, 23, appeared to be in discomfort, stretching and holding the back of his right leg before sitting on the pitch after Greece scored their opening goal through Vangelis Pavlidis.
Following the match, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for England, Carsley reported that Saka felt something in his leg leading up to Greece’s first goal. He stated, “He’s being assessed. Obviously, in the build-up to the first goal, you can see he felt something in his leg.”
In addition to Saka’s injury, England was also missing key players Harry Kane and Jack Grealish due to injuries; however, both are expected to recover in time for the UEFA Nations League match against Finland on Sunday.
Arsenal, Saka’s club, is also dealing with the absence of captain Martin Ødegaard, who suffered an ankle injury while playing for Norway in September. The Gunners are scheduled to return to Premier League action on October 19, facing Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
