The public has been urged on Tuesday, to disregard a malicious rumor circulating on social media platforms, online news platforms. particularly Adazi ENU Facebook and Phoenix, claiming the sudden death of Chief Bestman Anekwe (Ochiagha Jesus), Chairman Nipco PLC.
In a statement, Hon. Chukwudi Ezinwa, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of ALGON and National Ex-officio member of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), representing Eastern Zone, categorically debunked the rumor, describing it as “baseless and mischievous”. He recalled a similar false rumor that was spread about the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the Owelle of Onitsha, and warns those peddling this falsehood to desist forthwith.
He expressed disappointment that Adazi ENU Facebook and Phoenix had chosen to peddle fake news, emphasizing the importance of verifying information to avoid credibility issues and potential harm to individuals and families.
Ezinwa said; “Although the chairman of NIPCO PLC lost his wife to the cold hands of death and wake-keep will be duly conducted on Monday 19th of August 2024. The general public should however disregard this unfounded rumours and urged information peddlers to always verify information through credible sources before sharing. “Let us respect the privacy and dignity of Chief Dr. Bestman Anekwe and his family,” he said
Finally in a strong warning to those responsible for spreading the rumor, Hon. Ezinwa stated, “He who has peddled the news of Ochiagha’s death will be the one to die, and his funeral shall be duly attended by the same man whom they have used false rumors to end his life.”
This disclaimer serves as a clarification to the public, and all are advised to be cautious of fake news and verify information before sharing.
