The Federal Government is set to distribute 37,000 Point of Sales (POS) machines to women across Nigeria as part of its empowerment initiative. This was announced by the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye. The initiative, aimed at promoting economic empowerment, will be facilitated through Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) on Community Engagement, representing the six geo-political zones of the country.
These SSAs will be responsible for ensuring that funds provided to women and children by donor organizations are properly utilized, with a focus on supporting grassroots communities. The Minister highlighted the importance of shifting from mere advocacy to tangible empowerment, given that women constitute 70% of Nigeria’s population, including children.
The distribution of POS machines is part of a broader strategy to boost economic participation among women and ensure that resources are effectively channeled to those in need. The initiative is expected to strengthen the role of women in local economies and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities.
