Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has praised the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona, for his unwavering commitment to fostering religious tolerance, unity, and peace across Nigeria. The governor made this remark on Tuesday during the conferment of the title *Amir ul Mulukil Muslimin Fi Bilad* (Commander of Muslim Kings) in Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States on the revered 90-year-old monarch.
The event, held at the Palace grounds in Ijebu-Ode, was organized by the League of Imams and Alfas from Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States. Among the dignitaries in attendance were notable figures such as the Asiwaju of Ijebu land, Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa, former Deputy Governors Senator Gbenga Kaka and Alhaja Salmot Badru, and Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde.
During his speech, Abiodun highlighted the significance of Oba Adetona’s leadership, stating that it was no surprise that the first-ever title of *Amir ul Mulukil Muslimin* was bestowed upon him. He emphasized the royal father’s exemplary leadership and contributions to promoting harmony.
“Today’s event celebrates faith, values, and the courageous leadership the Awujale has demonstrated over the years,” Abiodun remarked. “Our new *Amir* embodies compassion, wisdom, and integrity—traits that every great leader must possess.”
Abiodun continued, acknowledging the Awujale’s new title as a reflection of his inclusivity and sense of justice. “Your leadership as *Amir ul Mulukil Muslimin* symbolizes your role as a bridge between tradition and modernity, and your example of religious tolerance is commendable.”
The governor urged the Awujale to continue using his position to promote unity and peace, noting that no nation can thrive in chaos. Abiodun also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure religious harmony and strengthen national unity.
In addition, Abiodun announced the imminent flagging off of the reconstruction of the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode express road. He shared that President Bola Tinubu had recently approved the project following his visit to the president last week to request intervention.
“This critical road serves 17 states in the southern region, and today, we will officially begin its reconstruction. I will be meeting with the Minister of Works, Engr Dave Umahi, to proceed with the flag-off,” Abiodun stated.
He lauded President Tinubu’s responsiveness and dedication to addressing the country’s infrastructural needs, calling on citizens to continue supporting the current administration.
