The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reacted to the optimism expressed by Governor Rochas Okorocha on his Certificate of Return saga.
Okorocha had on Thursday expressed optimism that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will still present him with his Certificate of Return.
According to the Governor, the electoral body was planning something special, to present him with his certificate.
“Maybe INEC wants to organise a special programme for me to hand over the certificate to me but clearly, I’ve won and it was a peaceful election,” he said.
But, reacting, INEC’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye on Channels Tv Sunrise Daily on Monday insisted that the commission has not rescinded its order and would not present the certificate to the Imo State Governor.
He stressed that no candidate including Governor Okorocha will be given certificate of return after influencing REC in his states “under duress”.
Asked whether the commission has reversed its decision on Okorocha’s certificate of return, Okoye said: “Yes, We’ve made it clear on why we didn’t present any certificate of return to him (Okorocha).
“If you look at our website, we said that the declaration and return were made under duress and that we are not going to give any certificate to any person or any individual that procured a return under duress.”
