Anambra-born businessman, Barth Nwibe, has declared his intention to contest the 2025 Anambra State governorship election under the Labour Party (LP). Nwibe made his announcement on Sunday while addressing political stakeholders in Awka Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area.
Nwibe, who cited leadership failure as his primary motivation, expressed concern over the state’s current governance, saying, “Anambra needs a humble leader who listens to his people, not an all-knowing individual who ignores the masses.” He emphasized the need for improved security, job creation, and the revival of the state’s economy.
He pointed to the state’s high youth unemployment, business collapse, and insecurity as signs of leadership collapse. “If the current administration was performing well, I wouldn’t be running,” Nwibe stated, criticizing the government’s lack of strategic development, including untapped natural gas reserves.
Nwibe also criticized the over-politicization of traditional leadership, saying, “We should no longer have a system where the governor determines who should be the traditional ruler or market associations.”
Coordinator of the ‘Barth Nwibe for Governor Movement,’ Gaius Ezeh, praised Nwibe’s leadership, describing him as a successful businessman and philanthropist with a track record of supporting youth education through his Ugo Igbo Foundation.
Ezeh added, “With Nwibe, Anambra can return to the days of glory, like in Peter Obi’s era. He is the best man to lead the state toward a brighter future.”
