The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made it clear that Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo must demonstrate a strong desire to represent the Super Eagles to be considered for selection. Adarabioyo previously turned down an invitation from the NFF and declined an offer from former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro to join the national team in 2023.
According to an NFF source who spoke with ESPN, Coach Peseiro traveled to the United Kingdom to meet with Adarabioyo while he was playing for Premier League club Fulham. However, the visit was unproductive, as the defender expressed that he wasn’t ready to make the switch at that time.
Recent reports indicate that the 27-year-old English-born defender has shown renewed interest in representing Nigeria. The NFF source confirmed that for Adarabioyo to be invited back to the national team, he must take formal steps to indicate his willingness to switch allegiances to Nigeria.
“If he is now inclined to make the switch, he needs to take appropriate actions to initiate the process himself,” the source stated. The NFF reiterated that it is essential for Adarabioyo to clearly express his intentions if he wishes to join the Super Eagles.
