Former Bauchi Governor Mohammed has issued a heartfelt message to Nigerian youths during the First Bauchi SDGs Youth Summit 2024, urging them to take the initiative in salvaging the nation’s economy. He candidly acknowledged that his generation has failed to deliver the leadership Nigeria deserves.
He stated, “My generation has failed. We seem to lack the answers.” Mohammed emphasized that, despite the opportunities presented by Allah, his generation has repeatedly led Nigeria to the brink of crisis, highlighting a cycle of ineffective leadership. He likened this behavior to “doing the same thing and expecting a different result,” which he referred to as a definition of madness.
Reflecting on his tenure, the former governor noted his deliberate efforts to invest in the youth. “I intentionally filled my executive council with young people. Importantly, I chose them based on their capabilities, not their connections,” he said. He recognized the importance of empowering the youth, understanding that he would eventually step aside and they would take the reins of leadership.
Mohammed also cautioned that if the current leaders do not adequately prepare the youth for future roles, the nation could face dire consequences. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize youth training and development to secure a brighter future for Nigeria.
