The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has arrested three individuals involved in illegal mining and armoured cable theft. The arrests were announced by DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, in a statement released in Akure on Wednesday.
Two of the suspects, Modashiru Nasiru, 18, and Hassan Yaya, 19, were apprehended on August 13 for engaging in unauthorized mining activities in the Oke-Igbo and Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo areas of Ondo State. Both individuals were found to be involved in unlicensed mining operations, which are illegal under Nigerian law.
In a separate incident, a third suspect, Aloa Segun, 40, was arrested for the theft of armoured cables. During the investigation, authorities recovered stolen items including armoured cables, recline cables, and a generator, with a total estimated value of N3.3 million.
Aidamenbor stated that the suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution once the investigations are complete. The NSCDC continues to emphasize its commitment to combating illegal activities and protecting public infrastructure in the state.
