Adeleye Ayomide, a 200-level student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Idowu Christianah. The tragic incident unfolded after Christianah was declared missing on August 19, 2024.
According to reports, Ayomide abducted Christianah and used her WhatsApp account to send photos of her in captivity to her parents, demanding a ransom of ₦1.5 million. The family managed to raise ₦350,000, which was transferred to a betting account as instructed by the kidnappers.
After receiving the ransom, the abductor requested a copy of the sender’s bank statement. The family provided it on August 23, but communication from the kidnappers stopped soon after. During this period, some of the ransom money was transferred into Christianah’s GTBank account and later withdrawn into a Wema Bank account linked to Ayomide.
Investigators traced the bank accounts and identified Ayomide’s BVN linked to the betting account. Further examination of his Instagram interactions with Christianah and mobile device tracking led authorities to his family home in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Military personnel from the 174 Battalion were deployed for his arrest.
A search of Ayomide’s phone uncovered incriminating evidence, including Christianah’s phone and bank records linking him to the crime. On September 3, Ayomide confessed to killing Christianah and burying her at his family home.
Additionally, reports suggest that Ayomide may have been involved in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his biological sister in 2020 under similar circumstances. The authorities are investigating these past allegations as part of their ongoing probe.
