Oyo State Government has said it will soon make waste bins available for public use at strategic places.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr Lateef Oyeleke, said this on Thursday after the weekly environmental sanitation exercise in Ibadan.
The commissioner said waste bins were available in the past but they became unsustainable because of lack of proper coordination.
He said the reintroduction of the waste bins was in line with the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde’s zero tolerance for the filthy environment.
Oyeleke said the government would ensure proper management of the public waste bins.
Oyeleke stated that the waste bins would be placed at strategic places in residential and market places to enable people to properly dispose their wastes rather than placing them on the road medians.
He said, “We will soon begin placing these waste bins at strategic locations where residents will be expected to dump their domestic waste.
“These bins will serve residential and commercial purposes and will attract a token so as to be able to sustain the system.
“We are doing this to complement other evacuation systems that are geared towards ensuring a cleaner environment which will precipitate good living among our people.”
