At the 6th Annual General Assembly of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa, held in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to combating corruption by underscoring his administration’s non-interference in the operations of anti-corruption agencies. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu highlighted corruption as a major barrier to national progress, noting its destructive impact on public trust and resource distribution.
Tinubu emphasized that his administration has concentrated on fortifying these agencies by ensuring they receive adequate funding while maintaining their independence. He urged member states of ECOWAS to strengthen legal frameworks, enhance support for anti-corruption institutions, and improve cross-border cooperation to combat corruption effectively.
The President called for actionable steps, including the adoption of innovative technologies, increased transparency in procurement processes, active engagement with civil society, and the bolstering of the autonomy of anti-corruption bodies to more effectively address corruption challenges.
