Demola Olarenwaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has criticized Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike for allegedly using the Nigeria Police Force and the judiciary to intimidate Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Olarenwaju claimed that Wike’s actions threaten to destabilize the state.
In a post on X, Olarenwaju expressed disappointment, stating that Wike’s collaboration with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to undermine the local government elections is concerning. This follows reports that Fubara confronted the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) after police attempted to halt the election.
Olarenwaju stated, “Tinubu’s Minister, Wike, is dragging the courts and the police into his political conflict with Governor Sim Fubara, who has the people’s support.” He added, “It is shameful for Wike, a former Governor, to attempt to set his own state ablaze, but Fubara remains steadfast.”
He condemned Wike’s alleged partnership with the IGP, describing it as “terribly sad and absolutely condemnable.” Olarenwaju emphasized that such actions reflect the federal government’s overreach under President Bola Tinubu, warning that Rivers residents must resist a return to the troubling political tactics reminiscent of early democracy.
