The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has suspended several prominent members, including Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and David Lyon, the party’s 2019 governorship candidate. The suspensions were enacted due to alleged anti-party activities.
Other suspended individuals include Kharim Kumoko, the state Commissioner for Power; Peres Biewari, Commissioner for Lands and Survey; former state APC chairman Jothan Amos; Godbless Diriwari, an ex-officio member of the APC National Executive Council; and Southern Ijaw APC Youth Leader Sabi Morgan. Additionally, the suspensions extend to Ward 3 Chairman Omiebi Fuoebi, Ward 4 Chairman Claudius Odobu, and their respective executive members.
The indefinite suspensions were announced by Mitin Eniekenemi Senator, the Chairman of APC in Ekeremor Local Government Area, in Yenagoa, following a report from the party’s disciplinary committee. He accused Lokpobiri of engaging in anti-party activities since the 2019 governorship election, including supporting a faction within the party and backing Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 Bayelsa gubernatorial election.
In a related announcement, Ebikazi Gbefa, the APC Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, confirmed the suspension of David Lyon and seven others, accusing them of undermining the party’s candidates in recent elections while supporting the PDP.
The suspensions have been forwarded to the APC State Executive Council for ratification, with no questions taken from journalists during the briefing.
