Earlier this week, Toyin was criticized for having one of her online trolls arrested and detained. The troll had accused her of unlawfully detaining his mother, a claim Toyin denied, stating that the mother chose to stay at the police station due to her son’s arrest.

Following this incident, many Nigerians called for her movies to be removed from the streaming platform Netflix, urging a boycott against her work.

Veteran actor Saidi Balogun criticized those trolling her, noting that using the police for minor disputes is common but becomes a bullying issue when a celebrity is involved. He described the backlash as emotional blackmail.
