Yusuf Adamu, a 15-year-old herder, became the victim of a brutal stabbing incident in the TCNN area of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack, carried out by an unidentified hoodlum, occurred on Sunday, January 7, while Yusuf was tending to his cattle in the vicinity.
Dauda Suleiman, the older brother of the victim, relayed the distressing details to the media, revealing that Yusuf is currently hospitalized and in critical condition.
According to Suleiman, the assailant attacked Yusuf with a knife while he was overseeing his cattle in the TCNN – Bukuru general area. The family discovered Yusuf’s absence when his cattle were found grazing alone. Concerned for his well-being, a search was initiated, leading to the grim discovery of Yusuf lying wounded, covered with leaves. The security was promptly notified, and Yusuf was rushed to Plateau Hospital, where he currently resides in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
In response to the incident, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), sector 5, has apprehended some suspects, while two others remain at large. Muhammad Nuru Abdullahi, the state chapter chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), confirmed the occurrence and urged all parties to exercise caution.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of herders and the urgent need for heightened security measures to ensure the safety of individuals engaged in such activities. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further acts of violence in the region.
