A tragic incident occurred at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, where a 300-level computer science student, Naja’atu Salisu, passed away after collapsing in the bathroom.
Naja’atu was found unconscious by her sister on Friday morning. According to her roommate, who requested anonymity, Naja’atu had completed her usual morning preparations for class, including selecting her clothes, before heading into the bathroom.
The university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, reported that Naja’atu had brought out her study materials and entered the bathroom to shower while her sister waited to attend class with her. Concerned about her prolonged absence, her sister checked on her and discovered Naja’atu unconscious on the bathroom floor in the female hostel at the Gubi campus.
Upon raising the alarm, Naja’atu was rushed to the university clinic. Medical personnel attempted a transfusion but struggled to find a vein, realizing the severity of her condition. She was then transferred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Naja’atu’s parents, who reside in Abuja, were informed of the incident and directed that her funeral and burial be conducted according to Islamic rites. She has since been buried as per these customs.
The Students Union Government (SUG) ATBU Bauchi, along with various student unions, clubs, and societies, have extended their condolences to Naja’atu’s family and the university, describing the event as deeply unfortunate.
