Agboola Ajayi, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has articulated a clear vision for the state’s future, criticizing the current administration under Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa. Speaking at a media event in Lagos on Friday, Ajayi emphasized the urgent need for change in Ondo State as the November 16 governorship election approaches.
Ajayi contended that the APC government has failed to deliver on its promises, leaving the people of Ondo State dissatisfied and yearning for better governance. He stated, “The upcoming election is not just another political contest; it is an opportunity for the people of Ondo State to reclaim their future and secure a better life for themselves and their children.”
During his address, Ajayi highlighted the primary objective of governance as ensuring the safety and welfare of the citizens. He criticized any political party that strays from this fundamental principle, declaring that such deviation leads to a disconnection from the needs of the populace. “I have a clear vision of how to make it work,” he asserted, signaling his commitment to prioritizing the people’s needs if elected.
Reflecting on the legacy of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Ajayi noted that many of the issues faced by the state remain unresolved and have worsened under the current leadership of Ayedatiwa. He pointed out that Ayedatiwa, who was Akeredolu’s Deputy, has not only failed to address these problems but has also contributed to their deterioration.
“The November 16 governorship election in Ondo State is crucial,” Ajayi warned. “It will determine the direction of the state for the next four years. The electorate must consider carefully who they entrust with their votes.”
In addition, Ajayi criticized the recent September 21 Edo governorship election results, labeling them a failure and contrary to the people’s wishes. He urged those in positions of power, responsible for safeguarding the electoral process, to uphold their duties and ensure that elections reflect the voice of the citizens.
As Ajayi campaigns for the governorship seat, he promises a government that listens to the people, prioritizes their needs, and works towards sustainable development in Ondo State. With the election date approaching, the stakes are high for Ajayi and his opponents, as the future of Ondo State hangs in the balance.
