The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly expressed its unwavering support for Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as a candidate for the Minister of Youth position. This endorsement comes as a noticeable snub to the party’s National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel. A formal letter dated August 21, titled ‘Clarion call for a purposeful minister of youth that is fit for the job,’ outlines the youth leaders’ divergence from the party’s national stance, favoring Seyi Tinubu due to his significant contributions in fortifying the party’s youth division.
Elaborating on their rationale, the youth leaders underscored Seyi Tinubu’s commendable efforts during electoral campaigns, wherein he diligently traversed multiple states at unconventional hours to garner support for the successful governance under President Tinubu’s leadership. They firmly believe that Seyi Tinubu possesses the requisite comprehension of establishing a robust youth ministry, which will not only alleviate the grievances of the nation’s youth but also serve as a conduit for constructive engagement across the various states.
This endorsement comes shortly after the reassignment of Abubakar Momoh from the Youth Ministry to the Ministry of Niger Delta Development by Tinubu. This transfer was prompted by public outcry, with citizens highlighting that Momoh was not representative of the youth demographic. As a direct response to this reshuffle, the APC youth leaders have united to advocate for a candidate who, in their view, resonates more closely with the aspirations of the nation’s young populace.
