The Nigerian Army Headquarters has initiated an investigation into allegations against Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, the former Commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano. Reports indicate that he was dismissed following accusations of withholding benefits intended for his subordinates, along with other allegations of misappropriation during his tenure.
A military source revealed that Sadiq remains in custody while the investigation is ongoing. “Brigade matters are strictly handled by the Army Headquarters, not the Defence Headquarters as speculated. The general has been removed due to allegations from soldiers that he withheld their entitlements, among other issues. He was invited for questioning and is still in custody,” the source stated.
When contacted for comments, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, referred inquiries to the Director of Army Public Relations.
Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed that Brigadier General Sadiq is undergoing a military investigation into “administrative discrepancies” during his command. “The immediate past Commander of the 3 Brigade, Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, is currently facing a military investigation into administrative discrepancies. Consequently, he has been relieved of command to ensure a thorough investigation,” Nwachukwu stated.
He emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to discipline and accountability, stating, “As a self-regulatory institution, the Nigerian Army has zero tolerance for indiscipline and will not condone any misconduct or actions that undermine its values and principles.”
Nwachukwu assured that the Army would thoroughly investigate the allegations and take appropriate sanctions if Sadiq is found guilty. “The Nigerian Army is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency,” he concluded.
