Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has addressed speculation regarding his secondary school certificate. This clarification was provided by one of his media aides, Chief Dele Momodu, in a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday.
The need for this clarification arose in response to allegations of forgery made against Atiku by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). These allegations were related to a discrepancy in the name “Sadiq Abubakar” on Atiku’s WAEC certificate in comparison to his other credentials.
Momodu conveyed these accusations to the former vice president, who offered an explanation for the discrepancy. Atiku’s response, as relayed by Momodu, was as follows: “Yes, I used Sadiq Abubakar to sit for my WAEC, and after passing my exams, I went to swear an affidavit to say I am the same person as Atiku Abubakar. I went to ABU as Atiku Abubakar and passed my exams as Atiku Abubakar. I was interviewed as Atiku Abubakar by the Federal Civil Service Commission and hired into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar. So where is forgery there?”
In light of this response, Momodu posed a question to the APC’s social media advocates, asking if they could forward the numerous questions circulating to their leadership and receive an immediate and direct response.
