In a tragic incident on Monday, gunmen launched an invasion on Magamin Kano Village in Bauchi State, resulting in the death of one person and leaving another injured. The attackers specifically targeted the residence of Alh. Bashir Abubakar, the Village Head, and successfully kidnapped his wife and son, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
According to an anonymous source, the armed assailants fired gunshots, claiming the life of one individual. The injured victim was shot in the thigh and is currently receiving medical treatment at Ningi General Hospital.
Although the primary target was the traditional ruler himself, he managed to escape the attack. Unfortunately, his wife and son were not as fortunate and were taken captive.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen, who were numerous in number, operated for several hours before fleeing in the direction of Ningi forest.
As of the time of reporting, the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil, could not be reached for comment.
This incident adds to the growing unease in the area, as residents of Ningi Local Government Area now live in fear and anxiety due to the frequent activities of gunmen. The recent surge in attacks has hindered farming activities, with many individuals afraid to venture out to their fields.
The residents also revealed that over the past month, several villages in Ningi LGA have fallen victim to the gunmen’s assaults, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the abduction of several others. Shockingly, the families of the kidnapped victims have allegedly paid approximately N50 million in ransom before their release.
The authorities are urged to take swift action and ensure the safety of the kidnapped victims, while intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and restore peace to the affected communities.
