The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a statement through its Publicity Secretary, Daniel Ihomun, revealing that the party has uncovered plans for a protest against political figures such as Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. According to the statement, the protest is allegedly being sponsored by agents of the state government with the aim of thwarting the discontinuation of funds to local governments with undemocratic structures in Benue and other states.
Expressing serious concerns about the potential consequences of such a protest on the unity of the state and the party, Ihomun called on security agencies in Benue State to be vigilant and urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to closely monitor individuals misusing his name to orchestrate activities that could lead to anarchy.
The statement also disclosed that the protest is purportedly targeting key figures, including Senate President Akpabio and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Dr George Akume, who is the leader of the APC in Benue. The APC views this alleged plot as an act of sabotage, emphasizing the need to prevent actions that could embarrass the President and his administration.
The party has called on the Inspector General of Police and the Benue State Commissioner of Police to closely monitor the planned protest, cautioning that what may initially appear as a solidarity march could have a hidden agenda with potentially negative consequences.
