In a significant development within the ongoing Operation Lake Sanity II, MNJTF forces operating in the Lake Chad Basin region have reported the voluntary surrender of a Boko Haram commander and five of his associates.
Adamu Muhammad, a notable figure within the Boko Haram ranks, along with his companions, surrendered themselves to Sector 3 of the MNJTF stationed in Monguno, Borno State, according to official statements released on Thursday.
The surrender, confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer based in N’djamena, Chad, underscores the intensified efforts of the MNJTF in combating terrorist activities in the region.
Muhammad, aged 22, has been linked to numerous terrorist attacks in areas such as Kangarwa, Alagarno, Doro Naira, and Dogon Chikwu within the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Upon surrendering, the militants handed over a significant cache of weaponry, including ammunition and anti-aircraft warheads. The surrendered fighters are currently undergoing thorough investigation procedures to determine their involvement in past terrorist activities.
This surrender marks a notable addition to the number of militants who have chosen to lay down their arms since the commencement of Operation Lake Sanity II on April 23, 2024, bringing the total count to 119. The MNJTF appeals to other members of terrorist groups to follow suit and embrace peace, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring security in the Lake Chad Basin region.
