The Borno State Government, in conjunction with local security agencies, has announced a temporary easing of the curfew currently in effect to facilitate the observance of Friday Juma’at prayers. This decision aims to allow Muslims to attend congregational prayers while maintaining overall public safety.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Daso Nahun, the Police Public Relations Officer, communicated the updated curfew schedule in a statement from Maiduguri on Friday. The curfew will be relaxed from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, providing ample time for residents to attend Juma’at prayers at nearby mosques. Following this period, the curfew will resume, continuing from 3:00 PM until 6:00 AM the next morning.
Nahun advised residents to adhere to the curfew and avoid any actions that could lead to violence. He reassured the public of the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties, emphasizing ongoing efforts to restore and maintain peace and order in the state.
“This adjustment comes in light of recent disturbances, including protests, IED explosions, and instances of culpable homicide,” Nahun said. “The government and security agencies are dedicated to managing these challenges effectively and ensuring the safety of all residents.”
The relaxation of the curfew underscores the government’s balance between facilitating religious observance and upholding public security amidst the current unrest.
