Chelsea, Lyon, and Real Madrid have secured their places in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinals following thrilling group-stage victories on Wednesday.
Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 win over Celtic at Stamford Bridge. Lucy Bronze opened the scoring with a volley in the second minute, followed by Wieke Kaptein’s header midway through the first half. Eve Perisset sealed the victory with a penalty in stoppage time, marking Chelsea’s fourth consecutive win in Group B.
“A great result. Really happy with the win, the three points, and staying top of the table. It was important to score early,” said Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor, who has led her side to 11 wins since joining in May after three years with Lyon.
Real Madrid also advanced after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Twente. The Dutch side struck first with Jaimy Ravensbergen’s opener, but Madrid responded with Linda Caicedo’s equalizer before halftime. Goals from Signe Bruun and Alba Redondo ensured the win, despite Sophie Te Brake’s late consolation for Twente.
Lyon, the reigning champions, secured their spot with a commanding performance elsewhere, ensuring their presence in the knockout phase.
As the competition heats up, the quarterfinal lineup promises intense matchups, with Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Lyon among the top contenders.
