Well-known comedienne, Damilola Adekoya, popularly known as Princess, has spoken out about the widespread presence of rape apologists and abusers in Nigeria. In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she emphasized that many rape victims are at risk of becoming abusers themselves, a discussion that many people are hesitant to acknowledge.
Princess stated, “A lot of Nigerians are actually rapists and rape apologists. Let me tell you, out of every 10 children who are abused, 5 of them would probably become abusers if they were not adequately rehabilitated. Are we ready for that talk? Already, people are defiling 3 months old, 9 months old.”
She expressed her disappointment in individuals taking advantage of children and even the elderly, noting that the situation is deteriorating.
Princess urged Nigerians to observe developed countries and learn how they protect their children and the elderly.
Expressing her anger, she questioned, “How can you rape a 78-year-old woman in broad daylight? Where are we going? So what’s going to be next, I want to know when do we stop. That’s why I said we went from good, bad to sinister; this is a horror movie.”
She emphasized the importance of standing up for children as they are the future of the country. She also mentioned her foster daughter, who was molested by the actor Baba Ijesha and noted that during the trial, some people tried to convince her to drop the case, but she refused.
Princess expressed concern about the practice of parents negotiating settlements with perpetrators and recounted an instance where a settlement was reached with a goat, emphasizing that such actions should not be tolerated. She highlighted the need for the protection of children and the importance of not perpetuating such harmful practices.
