The Lagos State High Court has ordered social media critic Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to remove defamatory comments and videos targeting lawyer and human rights activist Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin, also known as Falz. The court has also directed him to pay ₦500 million for libel.
Justice M. O. Idowu delivered the ruling on Tuesday in suit no: ID/8584/GCM/2024. He found that the posts made by VeryDarkMan on September 24, 2024, which linked Bobrisky to Falz and his father, were defamatory and damaging to their reputations.
Dawodu, representing Falz and Falana, emphasized that VeryDarkMan was aware that the statements regarding Bobrisky were false but chose to publish them to harm their reputations. He further noted that the defamatory statements continue to circulate on VeryDarkMan’s various online platforms, perpetuating the injury to their reputations as long as the posts remain accessible.
