Declan Rice has faced backlash for his exuberant celebration, with some critics suggesting he was “celebrating like he’s won the Champions League,” following Arsenal’s victory over Crystal Palace, despite being reduced to 10 men during the match.
During the Monday night match (August 21), Arsenal managed to secure a hard-fought 1-0 win against Crystal Palace, despite defender Takehiro Tomiyasu receiving two yellow cards within a short span of seven second-half minutes. The victory was clinched by a penalty scored by captain Martin Odegaard. As the final whistle blew, Rice was spotted enthusiastically celebrating the win, pumping his arms and shouting towards his teammates. Sky Sports commentator Seb Hutchinson remarked on the spirited celebrations from the Arsenal players.
Video clips capturing Rice’s reaction were shared on social media, leading rival fans to criticize his exuberance. A Chelsea supporter’s response highlighted that Rice’s celebration appeared out of proportion, stating, “Rice thinks he’s won the Champions League, embarrassing.” Another individual, who supports Rice’s former club West Ham, commented, “Rice celebrating like he’s won the CL… scraped by a clueless Palace… He has to make it look like he’s loving it there I guess…”
