The President of Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, Chief Ogakwu Dominic has applauded the tax education and enlightenment workshop organized by the Federal Inland Revenue Service for CSOs and NGOs.
Speaking to CSONews24.com during the workshop held in Abuja Continental Hotel, the President of Civil Society Groups for Good Governance describe the initiative as a step in the right directions saying such actions will help shape the conversation on tax compliance and administration.
“All over the world tax compliance is a necessity for citizen participation in discussion around accountability and transparency without which government cannot meet with its constitutional responsibilities to the public” Ogakwu said
Chief Ogakwu said the delivery by the different speakers has simplified the subject matter and will help participants to downscale the discussion to the necessary quarters while advocating that there should be more of such engagement between the Service and the civil society community.
“With dwindling resources, the nation cannot afford to risk not widening the task net to accommodate all defaulters who essentially have seen no need in fulfilling their fiscal obligations to the nation on one hand and the need for government to provide accountability on government’s expenditure and infrastructural development on the other” Ogakwu further stressed.
