- Decry plans to monopolize the forensics investigation sector
- Condemns hasty race to pass bill despite not fulfilling requirements
- Calls for immediate probe of allegations surrounding the institute
- Says Nigerians deserves a right to dividends of democracy
A coalition of over 180 Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria identified as the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, CSGGG has called on the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan to ensure due process while passing the bill seeking to establish Chartered Institute of Forensic Investigative Professionals of Nigeria.
CSGGG in a letter to the Senate duly signed by its President Comrade Ogakwu Dominic, decried the plans to monopolize the institute thereby making it a one-man, one-woman business, the group stated that it’s shocking to see under the regime of the Senate President that the said bill has already passed first and second reading albeit not fulfilling all requirements or even undergoing due process.
The letter reads “We have it on good authority that your Excellency- Ahmad- the Senate President is the patron of the CIFIPN in question. Could this be the explanation for such hurry to pass this bill into law? If that be so, would it be fair or unfair to conclude that you are undoubtedly guilty of gross abuse of office and miscarriage of justice? Wouldn’t that mean that you have robbed Nigerians of their rights to dividends of democracy and therefore so bereft of public trust, you shall no longer be fit to continue in your capacity as the head of our lawmaking organ-the Senate?
“It is worrisome that the sponsors of this bill seek to monopolize the forensics investigation sector, by shutting out other organizations from operating, in order to be the sole organization in that practice, which is against the spirit of democracy and capitalism – that is the principle of free enterprise!
The group buttressed that questions have began to emerge over the hasty passage of the bill especially as it comes on the heels of weighty petitions by recognized national and international organisations against the passage of the said bill stating that such action will from the senate will be berating to the name of the chamber and also a sad face on the image of the country.
Reiterating its position as watchmen of the society and mouthpiece of the people, the group also warned that should the matter not be blown into a “LawanGate or NASSGATE” the Nigerian Senate- under the leadership of the President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, should do the needful by following due process on the establishment of the bill citing the senate as the hope of the ordinary Nigerian for Free and Fair investment friendly environment.
