Dangote Refinery has clarified that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has not yet begun lifting petrol from its facility, as contract negotiations between both parties are still ongoing. In a statement released on Thursday, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, addressed reports suggesting that NNPC had commenced the lifting of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from the refinery.
Chiejina explained that the company is not in a position to set petrol prices, as the sector is regulated by relevant government authorities. “We would like to state that NNPC has not commenced lifting of refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from our Dangote Petroleum Refinery. The issue of fixing the price of petrol lifted from our refinery does not arise, as we are yet to finalize our contract with NNPC,” he said.
He further urged the public to disregard misleading reports and assured Nigerians that the refinery would supply high-quality petroleum products across the country once operations commence.
Meanwhile, NNPC disclosed plans to deliver over 17.6 million barrels of crude oil to Dangote Refinery between September and October. According to Adedapo Segun, Executive Vice-President, Downstream at NNPC, 6.3 million barrels will be delivered in September, followed by 11.3 million barrels in October. This move is part of the government’s push to boost local petroleum production. So far, NNPC has already supplied 30 million barrels of crude to Dangote Refinery.
