Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has expressed the belief that elections in Nigeria are won by candidates who demonstrate a high level of “ruggedness.” He shared this perspective on his X page on Wednesday.
In his post, Davido wrote, “Nigeria Election nah by who rugged pass.”
A curious fan asked if his uncle, Governor c of Osun State, also won through ruggedness, and Davido confirmed that rugged individuals supported his uncle.
The fan with the X handle @chief_ochuko commented, “Na ruggedity ur uncle take win Abi?”
Davido replied, “Men mount.”
Davido’s statement comes in the context of President Bola Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC). The petitions filed against Tinubu’s victory by the Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) were all dismissed by the court.
The five-man panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, rejected Peter Obi’s LP petition, which sought to nullify Tinubu’s election. Additionally, the court dismissed APM’s petition, which aimed to disqualify the president over the invalid nomination of his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima. Atiku Abubakar’s suit, seeking to disqualify Tinubu on the grounds of dual citizenship, was also rejected.
Davido’s comments reflect the perception in Nigerian politics that ruggedness and resilience play a significant role in achieving electoral success.
