This unsettling incident has led to the closure of several businesses and shops in the area.
Efforts by concerned residents to notify relevant government agencies to remove the corpse have been met with delays, and the strong stench from the decaying body has forced many shop owners and residents to leave the vicinity for safety reasons.
Community leaders had previously alerted the police divisions in Makogi and Ibafo when they noticed the man, who appeared sick, sleeping in an open space. Despite their report, no action has been taken, and the fear of potential health hazards arising from the smell is growing.
Mr. Ishola David, the Chairman of Makogi South Community Development Area, expressed concerns about the community’s environmental health due to the lingering corpse. He recounted that the man had been seen wandering in the area five days before his body was discovered. Residents had tried to assist him by offering water, but his condition deteriorated, leading to his eventual death.
Shop owners, like Mrs. Akinwande, have been unable to conduct business due to the overpowering stench emanating from the corpse’s location. They have made distress calls to the emergency helpline, but no assistance has arrived so far.
The Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Mr. Ogunsola Olarewaju, has not yet responded to the incident, though a personal assistant to the chairman assured that he would be informed.
As of the time of reporting, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Oduntola, had not provided a response to inquiries about the matter. The situation continues to cause distress among residents, who hope for swift action to remove the decomposing body and address any potential health risks.
