The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) youth wing is experiencing internal division regarding the selection of the Minister of Youth. While one faction of APC youth leaders is backing Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, for the Minister of Youth position, another faction has rejected the endorsement of the party’s National Youth Leader, Dayo Isreal.
In a letter dated August 21, titled “Clarion Call for a Purposeful Minister of Youth That is Fit for the Job,” over 30 state youth leaders supported Seyi Tinubu. They cited his efforts in strengthening the party’s youth wing and his dedication to the Tinubu-led administration during elections.
The youth leaders argued that Seyi Tinubu’s nomination would be advantageous as he understands the importance of an effective Ministry of Youths and would address the grievances of youth across the country. This endorsement follows the redeployment of Abubakar Momoh from the Youth Ministry to the Ministry of Niger Delta Development due to public criticism about his eligibility as a youth for the role.
The internal division within the APC’s youth wing showcases differing opinions on the suitable candidate for the Minister of Youth position and highlights the dynamics of party politics and power struggles.
