Following escalating tensions surrounding the selection of a new Alararomi of Araromi Ekiti, the Ekiti State Government intervened to address the issue. The dispute arose after Prince Adebomi Babalola was chosen as the Alararomi-elect, sparking objections from certain contenders and stakeholders.

In a reconciliation meeting convened at the Deputy Governor’s office, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye clarified the government’s stance, emphasizing that there is no favored candidate. Rather, the government accepted the selection and nomination endorsed by the ruling House and kingmakers after Ifa consultation.

Mrs Afuye refuted allegations of nepotism leveled against the government, stressing Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to fairness, equity, and transparency in chieftaincy matters across the state.

Assuring all parties involved, the deputy governor affirmed the government’s dedication to upholding justice and fairness, strictly adhering to the Alararomi Chieftaincy Declaration.

She urged contenders to view the selection process as fostering unity and solidarity among the people of Araromi Ekiti, emphasizing a spirit of no victor, no vanquished.

Mrs Afuye called for restraint from those making divisive and provocative remarks, urging them to allow tensions in the community to ease.

To reinforce transparency, stakeholders were shown a video of the Ifa consultation conducted during the selection process.

Notable attendees included the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs and Home Affairs, Hon. Ojo Atibioke, Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, and other dignitaries, along with traditional rulers such as the Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adewole, and other local monarchs.
