Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, a former Labour Party presidential aspirant, has blamed human negligence and corrupt inaction for the devastating flood disaster in Borno State, Northern Nigeria. In an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Joseph expressed his frustration with the lack of accountability in the country, calling for justice for those responsible for the disaster.
Joseph argued that the flood, which caused widespread destruction, could have been prevented if officials had acted responsibly. He criticized the failure to apply laws equally, claiming that while the poor face harsh consequences, the rich and powerful often evade justice. He cited examples, including a former governor accused of financial misconduct and a suspended minister who has yet to face trial.
In his letter, Joseph urged the president to take decisive action against those whose corrupt inaction led to the disaster. He stressed that accountability is essential for Nigeria’s progress, adding that he still believes in the country’s potential for success despite its current challenges.
Joseph’s call comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with issues such as corruption and ineffective governance, which have hindered its growth since gaining independence in 1960.
