The Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Rivers State was rocked by an explosion early Monday morning. The blast occurred at the party’s state office located along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt around 1 a.m.
Initial reports suggest that a dynamite was detonated, causing significant damage to the building. The explosion shattered windows, doors, and damaged the ceiling and other fittings, leaving the party’s leadership and members in shock.
Although the perpetrators have not yet been identified, speculation links the incident to the ongoing leadership crisis in the state. Reports indicate that the explosion may be connected to recent political tensions, including rumors that Governor Siminialayi Fubara is planning to switch allegiance to the APP amid allegations of political maneuvering by his predecessor and current Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
A party member, Chimene, confirmed receiving news of the attack around 3 a.m. and described it as politically motivated. The APP is calling on the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and apprehend those responsible.
