Felix Uduokhai, the central defender for Augsburg, showcased an outstanding performance during Augsburg’s 5-2 victory over 1.FC Heidenheim 1846 on Sunday, October 22. His remarkable display earned him a spot in the Bundesliga Team of the Week for matchday 8, as recognized by the football statistics website Whoscored.
Uduokhai, a former Germany U21 international, has been on the radar of ex-Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, who attempted to convince him to switch his allegiance from Germany to Nigeria. Despite Rohr’s efforts, Uduokhai remained loyal to his country of birth, Germany, and did not make the switch.
During the match against Heidenheim, Uduokhai played a pivotal role as Augsburg fought back from a two-goal deficit to secure a 5-2 victory—a historic away win for Augsburg in the Bundesliga. Uduokhai contributed to his team’s success by scoring a goal, marking his first Bundesliga goal since September 26, 2020, and his first Bundesliga goal away from home.
In addition to his goal, Uduokhai won three aerial duels, made four clearances and three interceptions, won a foul, and demonstrated excellent passing accuracy at 90.2 percent.
His impressive performance not only earned him recognition but also reaffirmed his value to Augsburg’s defensive lineup, making him a key player for the team. Despite the courtship attempts, Uduokhai’s loyalty remains with Germany, and he continues to excel on the football field.
