In a bid to create more awareness and drive narrative of Self-Care home, the Federal Ministry of Health, has collaborated with a foremost NGO, Pathfinder International, WHO, amongst others to orientate Media Practitioners in order to promote health and prevent diseases in the country.
The country director, Dr. Amina Dorayi, ably represented by Dr Sakina Bello, tasked media representatives on the imperatives of promoting self-care interventions in her opening remark during the programme, which was held in Bolton-White Hotels Abuja on Tuesday.
Affirming the commitment of Pathfinder International to self-care interventions,the Country Director disclosed that it was in accordance with the goals of Universal Health Coverage.
Also, Dr Femi James of the World Health Organization (WHO, reiterating that self-care was pivotal to the organisation, mentioned that the idea is for people to undertake health services including preventive , promotive and curative health services with little guidance from health personnel.
He also posited that the World Health Organization would continue to partner with the ministry and relevant organizations for a healthy world through self-care interventions.
Meanwhile, Mrs Remi Bajomo, Director of VVF and Reproductive Health, Ministry of Health, defined Self-care as the ability of the individual to promote health and maintain health with or without the healthcare provider.
She, however, expressed continuous commitment of the ministry to promoting self-care aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage with monitoring and evaluation.
