Muhammad Garuba, a former commissioner for information in Kano state, revealed that the previous administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is not concerned about the current state government’s decision to reopen the investigation into the infamous dollar video. The video allegedly shows Ganduje receiving bribes.
Garuba made this statement in response to the threat issued by Barrister Muhuyi Magajin Rimin-Gado, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, to reopen the investigation against Ganduje.According to the former commissioner, his former principal, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is not concerned about the ongoing case as it is still being deliberated in court.Garuba further stated in an interview with BBC Hausa that if the former governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is summoned regarding the investigation, he will seek advice from legal experts to determine the appropriate course of action.
He mentioned, “Every incumbent governor, deputy governor, or president enjoys immunity. However, now that immunity no longer applies, the commission will take necessary steps.”
Garuba acknowledged that the case is currently being handled by the court, and being a lawyer himself, Chairman Muhuyi is well aware of the appropriate actions to be taken. He emphasized that they are closely monitoring the situation to observe how it unfolds. Garuba reiterated that Governor Ganduje remains unconcerned about the situation and views it solely as a legal matter.
He concluded by stating that Chairman Muhuyi, being knowledgeable in legal matters, is best positioned to determine whether he has the legal authority to investigate a case that is already before the court.
