The Gombe State government is set to implement a new minimum wage of N70,000 for its workers, according to Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau. This announcement was made during a press briefing on Sunday in Gombe.
Jatau, who also chairs the state’s Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage Negotiation, revealed that the committee is currently finalizing the details of the new wage structure. Represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Ahmed Abdullahi, Jatau emphasized Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to ensuring that civil servants in the state benefit from the new national minimum wage.
“Governor Yahaya is fully dedicated to implementing the new minimum wage,” Jatau said. “He believes that this adjustment is essential for the welfare of civil servants.”
Until the new minimum wage is officially rolled out, civil servants will continue to receive a N10,000 wage award that has been in place since September 2023. This temporary allowance will cease once the new wage structure is implemented.
In addition, Yusuf Aish, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Gombe State, indicated that negotiations would fully commence once the Federal Government releases the approved pay table.
Aish urged civil servants to exercise patience as the negotiations are finalized, stressing that the new minimum wage will be implemented in accordance with the agreed term
