Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has stated that he has adopted and implemented the leadership model of Michael Okpara, the former premier of the Eastern Region, to drive transformation in Imo State.
Speaking on Thursday at the Michael Okpara Leadership Lecture and Award 2024 in Abuja, Governor Uzodimma discussed how Okpara’s leadership philosophy influenced his administration’s approach to governance.
“Michael Okpara’s leadership was pivotal in making the Eastern Region’s economy one of the fastest-growing in Africa,” Uzodimma remarked. “I have mirrored this model in Imo State, and we are seeing positive progress toward a stronger economy.”
He emphasized that Nigeria’s future success and effective governance depend on embracing Okpara’s leadership style. “Okpara’s excellence in selfless service, agriculture, and industrialization showcases virtues like integrity, vision, and inclusivity. If Nigerian leaders adopt these principles, our nation will thrive,” he added.
Uzodimma urged Nigerian leaders to prioritize service above personal interests and encouraged citizens to fully engage in national development. He also noted that while Michael Okpara’s contributions remain a source of inspiration, they have not been sufficiently acknowledged.
“Although Okpara’s legacies continue to motivate future generations, his recognition has been inadequate. The ongoing lecture series is a valuable effort to honor his contributions, and I appreciate the organizers for their dedication,” Uzodimma concluded.
