In a startling revelation, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has disclosed a chilling discovery of more than 50 decomposed bodies and over 20 headless corpses, along with numerous human skeletons, near the Lokpanta Cattle Market along the Enugu-Umuahia-Aba Port Harcourt Expressway.
The governor made this grim announcement during his monthly media chat titled “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” held at the Government House in Umuahia on Sunday evening.
Governor Otti vowed to tackle the severe issues of insecurity head-on, regardless of whose interests may be affected. He pointed to the presence of prostitution, narcotics trade, and various criminal activities around the Lokpanta Cattle Market as the impetus for the market’s recent raid and the demolition of certain brothels. This intervention has reportedly brought a semblance of calm to Umunneochi.
Governor Otti also revealed plans to transform the Lokpanta market into a daily market, operating from 6 am to 6 pm, with designated sections for cattle dealers and other businesses. Furthermore, the government is in the process of fencing the market to bolster security.
He stressed that the Lokpanta area had been infamous for kidnapping and armed robbery, prompting his administration to make this market operational on a daily basis. The governor further assured the public that his government is determined to eradicate insecurity in Abia State, emphasizing that no government can thrive in the face of violence, armed robbery, and kidnapping.
Governor Otti concluded by stating that his administration is committed to ensuring Abians can enjoy a safe and joyful Christmas this year, and additional security measures, including strategic device installations, will be implemented to enhance safety in the region.
