ABUJA – The Niger Delta Advocacy Network for Good Governance and Transparency has issued a strong ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the immediate removal of the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in response to the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country. The group has warned that they will stage a protest at the National Assembly if their demands are not met by Friday.
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Okpako Theophilus, the group expressed deep frustration over the persistent fuel shortages that have led to exorbitant prices in oil-producing states, with fuel costs reaching as high as N1000 per liter. Theophilus highlighted that the severe fuel scarcity has had a significant impact on residents, prompting them to recall the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, which were also driven by fuel shortages.
The Niger Delta Advocacy Network criticized the NNPCL management for failing to effectively oversee the petroleum sector and accused them of jeopardizing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. They alleged that the continued leadership of the NNPCL is contributing to harsh economic conditions for ordinary Nigerians and pointed to possible racketeering by top government officials within the NNPCL as a major concern.
The group emphasized that President Tinubu must take decisive action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, stating that the current head of the NNPCL is unfit for the role and is undermining the President’s agenda. They called for the immediate dismissal of the NNPCL leadership and warned that failure to do so by the given deadline will result in a protest aimed at shutting down the National Assembly.
In their final warning, the group asserted, “This situation is entirely unacceptable. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu genuinely wants to improve the country, but he must act decisively to prevent further suffering. The ongoing issues with the NNPCL are a direct threat to Nigeria’s economy. If the President does not remove the head of NNPCL and appoint a competent successor, Nigerians will continue to endure these challenges. We will mobilize to the National Assembly if our demands are ignored by Friday.”
